Wallet

From: Acrylic Apps
Price: $20. iPhone app: $3.99

So, I've made many sites for multiple clients. After a while, my head just isn't big enough to store all those usernames and passwords, and an Excel spreadsheet just doesn't cut it. Been a long time user of info.xhead from xhead software. It's a secure storage for all those numbers I can't keep track of. I can organize them by whatever I want to (I have groups like "Serials", "Web Logins", "Client Websites", etc). It's been a great tool, been using it for a couple years now without any problems.

Spent time searching for Palm Blackberry iPhone synchronization in one of their future updates, but didn't want to wait any longer after seeing Wallet from Acrylic Apps... which does it all.

I find it very handy to have all of my information at my fingertips either at my desk or in my pocket. Who can really remember it all anyhow? If you've got an iPhone and want to keep track of your numbers/logins/etc, I highly recommend Wallet.

Like you, I've been using info.xhead on the Mac for a long time and quite simply, it's just the best tool for this purpose. And, like you, I eagerly awaited the release of an iPhone companion app, because as a consultant, I desperately need access to this information on the go. Unfortunately, xhead has been making excuses for a year, now (Apple is so hard to work with, there's a bug in the iPhone OS, Apple fumbled our application, etc.) about "when" they would release an iPhone app, and they keep moving the date further out. The latest prognosis is "Q12009". Based on prior experience, I suspect that date will go whooshing by like all the rest.

I've looked hard at switching to an alternative iPhone-enabled app (1Passwd, SplashID, etc.) but frankly, they don't hold a candle to info.xhead, IMO. So I'm still waiting and doing without.

Your post about Wallet is encouraging, and I will give it a try. I especially took note of your statement, "I switched from info.xhead to Wallet quick and easy..." That's important to me, as I have a LOT of information stored in info.xhead, and switching to another vendor could range from painful to impossible.

Thanks for an encouraging word!

Wallet has been all that info.xhead was and more. So happy with it. Wallet doesn't have spotlight integration, which was an info feature I found handy, but I find living without it is no big deal. Hope Wallet works out for you as it has me.

Ross, I just wanted to follow up and let you know that I've made the switch from info.xhead to Wallet, following your lead. This app is flexible enough to meet my needs, allowing me to define arbitrary groups and entries. Import is almost elegant (simple but powerful). The only problem I had was mapping the Notes from info.xhead to Wallet's pre-defined "notes" section/field; if there's an automated way to do this (during import) I couldn't find it. So I manually edited entries with notes, cutting and pasting the text from a header field to the pre-defined "notes" field.

I also purchased the iPhone app, and it appears this also will meet my needs. I did, however, have problems trying to get the sync via MobileMe to work; it kept rejecting my MobileMe credentials as "invalid". The FAQ on their website acknowledges problems with this, but unfortunately, I still couldn't get it to work as advertised. So I finally synced via WiFi, which worked.

Thanks again for turning me onto this app. The last time I checked, this product wasn't available (or I couldn't find it). My wait for a desktop/iPhone app is finally over!
